Organic Standard’s vision is a radical improvement in the sustainability of agriculture by developing ultra fertile “Terra Preta” soil.

Organic Standard’s vision is a radical improvement in the sustainability of agriculture in Switzerland, an end to soil degradation, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by developing ultra fertile “Terra Preta” soil.

Organic Standard is an impact-driven not-for-profit social start-up based in Zurich, Switzerland.
The team develops its own sustainable farming projects in Switzerland and engage in the marketing and sale of voluntary carbon-offset certificates to private persons and enterprises that wish to offset their environmental footprint in Switzerland.
Organic Standard has already realized 5 biochar composting and manure treatment pilot projects with farmers across Switzerland, turning more than 152 hectares of farmland into Terra Preta, making 283 cows happier and healthier and reducing more than 58.1 tons of CO2 per year.
Terra Preta, literally “black soil”, refers to the ultra fertile soils that were built up over hundreds of years by the inhabitants of the tropical Amazon Forest. It allowed them to farm and live off the banks of the river, which were otherwise sandy and infertile.

Organic Standard empowers private persons and enterprises to offset their environmental footprint through our projects and get re-connected with their regional agriculture. Their aim is to achieve 48,616 tons of annual CO2 reductions in Switzerland by 2025.
