• Veerle

Veerle is a project, that helps women in a foreign environment to cope with the issues of menstruation and intimate hygiene. Especially in less developed countries Veerle is supposed to advance education and help young women to build a community to share their knowledge in a safe environment.

The menstruation is a natural companion of the female cycle and is, therefore, an essential part of the human existence. In quite a number of different cultures the menstruation is associated with taboos, rituals, myths and superstitions, which are having a bad impact on womens’ life. The media are showing a lack of openness and elucidation as well: the social media platform Instagram already censored pictures of menstruation; the advertising industry depicts a blurred picture of the female period and thanks to celebrities like Donald Trump period shaming is consistently a topic.

The idea behind this Project is to fight against the taboos associated with the menstruation and give women a chance to improve their options to spend a self-determined life. The goal: the development of a mobile application that helps women in a foreign environment to cope with the issues of menstruation and intimate hygiene. This application is called „Veerle“.

Our application is platform that allows women to share their knowledge with others. By doing so Veerle is planned to become a knowledge database, which is going to be filled by our users and external partners.

Our goal is to give access to information about the menstruation to as many people as we can and by doing so increase the overall health of women globally.
