Welcome to Topfreisen… a socio-culinary journey!
Topfreisen is a project whereby asylum seekers sell fresh, home-made, ecologically sustainable meals to clerical workers in the area.
By this project, resources that are brought to Austria by asylum seekers are used to create a meaningful activity for these people.
In Mödling, where I live, there is a Caritas refugee camp on the site of the St. Gabriel monastery. An Afghan cook, who used to be a refugee himself, prepares the food together with the other residents in this facility. Moreover, Mödling is an area with many offices and industries. There are few options for employees there to eat healthy, varied meals, apart from taking along their own lunch. This is how my idea developed of combining these different aspects to sell the food prepared by asylum seekers to clerical workers in the area.
As an additional factor, in future, the organic farmer at the same site could be included. Through cooperation between both institutions, the residents could use fresh, organic ingredients for the preparation of their meals.
