• KoLa Leipzig

KoLa Leipzig aims to produce ecologically and socially responsibly grown fruit and vegetables for up to four thousand people from Leipzig and the surrounding area on 32 hectares of land in the city of Taucha.

Following the organization of KoLa Leipzig as a cooperative and following the principles of community supported agriculture (= CSA) , the members are involved in the events at the farm. The farm is to be a place for encounters, exchange and education, which makes the production of food more tangible and perceptible for people, families and children from the city of Leipzig.

The story: We, as a team come from the CSA "Rote Beete" in Taucha, which was founded in 2011. In May 2018 we received an offer to lease 32 ha of land in the long term. That was a great offer. A dream for farmers! But this offer was one size too big for us and firstly we were not interested. However, ...

Considering the increasing extinction of species, the tremendous loss of insects, climate change, the loneliness of individuals and the working conditions in the global South, we finally accepted the offer.

We see that the CSA Rote Beete works very well as an ecological and socially responsible company. The members are enthusiastic and there is a waiting list. The project KoLa Leipzig was born. Here we have the chance, on 32 hectares, to establish a CSA in a new dimension with modern resources and integrated food processing. We think the future of agriculture needs to be bigger to provide affordable, healthy food to an even wider public.

This way we can manage to feed a growing population with ecologically, participatively and socially responsible grown food. The time is right for KoLa Leipzig!
