FragNebenan wants to connect neighbours – and to do that more efficiently than existing communication channels. Meetings on the stairway or in the street are often coincidental, between people on the run. Notices on a board only allow for a little feedback. Knocking on a neighbour’s door to intrude his or her privacy requires courage. Neighbourhood get-togethers require much time and organisation. E-mail distribution lists go out of date and quickly become Spam. Facebook forces the disclosure of private details and offers neither a possibility to meet people in your area, nor the guarantee that the person really is the one he/she pretends to be.

We develop FragNebenan as a barrier-free, web-based solution with a special focus on data privacy. In this way, at any time of day, neighbours can quickly and efficiently communicate with others in their surroundings. Thanks to compulsory verification, only genuine neighbours are able to speak to each other. This reduces the difficulty of approaching each other. The spatial proximity creates trust and shortcuts. In this way, problems are discussed at an earlier stage, and new topics in the neighbourhood are brought up. With minimal effort, one can learn about a good doctor, ask if anyone can suggest an electrician, or borrow a drill for a few hours.

In this way, residents become neighbours. They get to know each other as part of a community and create an active and safe environment.
