Potenzialkraftwerk offers a brand new gap-year-programme which shows young people how their ideas can have a sustainable impact onto society. In our programme participants discover their power to make a difference even without having a specific project idea in advance.

After having completed their “Abitur”, most students feel unsure about what comes next, and the majority start a gap year to find orientation. Their hope is to learn about themselves and their opportunities so that they find their way to a meaningful place within society. However, these attempts remain futile for a lot of them. This is, for instance, reflected in the high number of bachelor students who do not finish their programme. By transforming the gap year we want to bring about change in this unfortunate situation.

Potenzialkraftwerk offers a programme that can be used complementary to other existing gap year programmes. We provide a space where young people can - for the first time - experience how their ideas for society can be turned into reality and create a long-lasting impact. In our twelve week long programme, the participants come together in teams. They understand local problems, find concrete solutions, implement them and make further steps together with partner-organizations. What is special is that participants learn how they can have a sustainable impact onto society, even without having a specific idea in advance. By discovering their own power to make a difference, they make an important step away from their personal disorientation and towards becoming an active changemaker.
